Goldstein: Global Warming cynicism

Lorrie Goldstein writes that Canadians care about global warming - so long as it doesn't hit them too hard in the pocketbook:

That radical environmentalists -- led by their Pied Piper, Al Gore -- have overplayed their hand by trying to scare us all to death.

That most of us are now engaged in a cynical game with our politicians when it comes to climate change.

A game in which, as journalist George Monbiot writes in Heat: How to Stop the Planet From Burning, we say we care about global warming, as long as we don't have to do anything drastic about it.
